Glenn Beck's 'Obama is Racist' Comment Prompting Advertiser Exodus

An off-the-cuff remark made by conservative Fox News commentator Glenn Beck stating that President Obama is a racist is coming back to bite Beck nearly a month later -- in the form of advertising revenue.

The group organizing the advertising boycott, ColorofChange.org, announced today that 16 more companies have pulled their ads, bringing the total to 36. The companies include AT&T, Campbell Soup Company, Clorox, Farmers Insurance Group, Johnson & Johnson, NutriSystem, Sprint, The UPS Store and Verizon Wireless.

Some of the companies have issued statements explaining their decision.

"We have had limited advertisements on the Glenn Beck Program in the past, however the statements he made during that show would not adhere to our programming standards," said Adam Oberweiser, a spokesperson for Clorox, in a phone message to a ColorOfChange.org member. "Furthermore, we will not be advertising on his program in the future since he did violate our own advertising standards."
